Last week, the Ecrubox team welcomed 16 year old Cara, for work experience. She spent the week learning about all aspects of digital marketing and agency life. Want to know how she got on? Here’s her first-hand experience...

My week has been filled with everything in digital marketing, from PPC and SEO to social media and PR. It has been a very informative week for me where I’ve learnt everything I wanted to and more. The team at Ecrubox digital made me feel so welcome and part of the team as soon as I stepped into the office on Monday morning.

What have I learnt this week?

This week has made it clear to me that digital media is my main interest for the future. It has been amazing to learn about the different aspects of digital marketing I didn’t know existed, including PPC (Pay Per Click) advertising.

I have learnt that PPC is, in a nutshell, companies bidding to be the first advert on search engines to show up. In PPC you only pay when the advert is clicked on and it’s all about staying relevant within your target audience.

SEO, standing for Search Engine Optimisation, is focused on getting your website near the top of Google’s results page when specific keywords are searched. On SEMRush and similar tools, you can see what keywords are being searched for the most around one topic, allowing you to edit your own website content to encourage Google to see you as the most suited website for that search. For example, if you look at ‘Love Island’ related searches, Alex is the most searched for islander on Google.

I have also been working with the lovely content and social team where we looked at paid social, organic social, blog content and PR.

I found paid social very interesting as it is amazing how much of an impact it can have on a business along with increasing the level of traffic that heads to their website. I now know that paid social is a great way to help with the overall marketing strategy to increase awareness and sales.

Paid social involves creating a campaign in which you put out advertisements. You can very specifically pick your target audience and choose who you would like the ad to reach. From age range, interests, relationship status, or what you’ve been looking at online, Facebook knows everything!

I was also given the opportunity to learn about organic social and how to engage with your followers through interactive posts, polls, questions, hashtags and more. I now know how difficult it is to gain followers and engagement on social media without eye-catching content and captions which attract the right audience.

Throughout my week I also learnt about public relations. Working in PR can be very challenging but also very rewarding. For example, thinking of original things to do which attract the public eye and get people talking online about your company is hard as it has to link back to the company in an appropriate way. It also involves writing press releases, comment pieces and chasing journalists along with other press contacts.

I also learnt a lot in client meetings and phone calls. I found it interesting seeing what type of questions clients ask and the topics that are discussed. Being in these meetings made me feel very much a part of the Ecrubox team and I came away from them with even more knowledge of their relationships with their clients and the services they provide for them.

Why work experience at Ecrubox Digital is fantastic?

Ecrubox is different from other digital marketing agencies. They form close relationships with their clients and are in constant conversation with them. If one of their clients have a question, they can easily get an answer to them quickly. And, because of their good understanding of the companies they work with, Ecrubox have gotten to know exactly what will have the best outcome for the client's goal.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my week at Ecrubox Digital and would recommend anyone looking for work experience to go there. The team have been very welcoming and made me feel part of the team. They have such a nice environment to work in. Because of the small size of the team, everyone has gotten to know each other really well, and they all have friendly relationships.

I would like to say thank you very much for an excellent week and great opportunity Ecrubox!
